Theres a nice balance between loading and ready, but both the guns and the crossbows lack many "firing" poses (3 each, or 1/4) and none of the "firing" pose crossbows are loaded. Some bows don't have their cranks attached these have a matching ammo box and crank bit that you can manually attach. The ranged weapons are nice the crossbows have either a single crank or a double crank pull, and there's enough ammo cases for all. The poses are believable, though it takes a bit of thinking in terms of unit composition. Its the exact same bodies off the WOTR English bill/bow set, so you get a mix of guys in padded armor, guys in jackets over padded armor, guys in coats of plate and guys in solid plate. You get 40 guys for very little money I got mine from The War Store for 30 bucks. I just finished assembling 12 handgunners, 16 pikemen and 10 crossbowmen (the remaining two will be part of a captain's guard), and thought I'd share my basic feelings on the mercs set. I got mine in the other day a box of mercs and a box of English bow/bills.
