Soon I was able to get better gear which also allowed me to reach higher levels in Minotaur, which I now use to get my masteries for other champions. Once I had my first champion at 60 and fully mastered, I worked on my second which didn't take as long to do, and also purchased the mastery with gems.
I also worked to fully book and ascend him. I built up my best champion to level 60, which can take a while, then purchased the mastery for him. This will bring in more gems for you to use later.
